Muslim Urban Professionals ("Muppies") has launched! On June 31, 2007 , Muppies officially unveiled our website (www.muppies.org) and established three U.S. chapters in the California Bay Area, Texas and New York.
The idea for Muppies was conceived in November 2006. In response to the growing need to develop, mentor and guide established and emerging Muslim professional leaders, the founders of Muppies decided to establish formal organization to achieve the vision of connecting leading Muslim professionals from around the world.
The launch of Muppies is an exciting event that will hopefully aid in the growth of professional networks amongst the global Muslim community.

The MFPA (Muslim Finance Professionals Association of New York) has decided to become a core-strategic partner of Muslim Urban Professionals (Muppies). This is a natural progression for the two organizations given the inherent synergies and overlap in objectives.
The Muslim Finance Professionals Association was established in New York City in 2002 as a socially-based networking organization to assist Muslims in identifying and promoting career opportunities. The organization has approximately 500 members on its list serv and includes individuals employed in financial services and other synergistic professional fields.
Similar to Muppies, the historical objectives of the MFPA organization included:
- Promoting professional networking and social interaction among Muslim American professionals in the U.S. and abroad
- Educating and promoting Muslim identity to both Muslim and American members of the community
- Advancing the Muslim American community by empowering, protecting and promoting its professional interests in the US and abroad
- Serving society through volunteerism and community service efforts
